Headmistress/Principal
Titles changed after the Ursulines joined the Roman Union in 1945. Before 1945 the sisters were called Mother. After 1972 only the Reverend Mother, or Prioress was called Mother. Today, only the Mother General in Rome is called Mother. After 1945 the Headmistress of the school was known as the Principal. There was always a close liaison between the Superioress/Prioress and the Headmistress/Principal. In the 1960s the roles were differentiated and the Principal had more independence and responsibility. After 1971 most of the sisters reverted to their baptismal names.
